Steve Castle's blogs for the last three games seem to have a common theme running through them.It appears that the players are suffering from nerves or stage fright and the tension is too much for them.
He states that in this game they did not get the ball down on the ground and create chances.Strange that remark considering we have been playing the long high ball game every since he has been the Manager. The philosophy of points at any cost seems to run deep in his mindset, not since Paul Attfield left have we seen an entertaining style of football that also led to the most successful period in the Crows history.
The players who are there now seemed to have signed up to this style of play and how some of them warrant their place remains a mystery.Take ,for example,Thomas a tall fellow who reputedly came with a good pedigree, obviously from the kennel club,as you can't seriously call him a footballer.
Firstly for a tall man he can't jump, secondly he spends most of his time marking the centre half as his movement of the ball is non existent. His control and holding up the ball and distribution is poor,I don't think that he could cut it in Sunday league football.
However, all the blame cannot be laid at his door other players need to look at themselves and evaluate whether they are good enough to take this club to the next level.
It is quite possible that promotion may well be achieved this year but at what cost.In my experience people go to watch football for the same reason they go to the theatre or the cinema to be entertained. This is not the case at Garden Walk if it were, then out of a Royston catchment area of approximately 17500 we would be getting more than an average 150 people attending the matches.
As a footnote it beggars belief that when criticism of the foolbal being played is made by a long time supporter the response is "" if you don't like it then don't bother to come here any more".I can only answer that by saying if that attitude effects you then don't go,there are plenty of other teams to go and watch in the surrounding area.
