Considering that at the start of this game Petersfield were eight places and 17 points below us in the league, one would assume that we would have a reasonable chance of securing the three points required to maintain a promotion challenge. How wrong can one be?To those who have watched Royston both home and away on most occasions this type of performance does not come as any surprise, because the attitude of three points at the expense of entertaining football seems to be the standard for many sides.e.g. Manchester United.
In the first 30 minutes Petersfield could have had at least two or three goals mainly due to the endeavour by their forwards and the lack of defensive organisation,a feature which would prove costly in the later stages of the game.Chris waters was exposed at the back by a skilfull and speedy winger which put preesure on the other defenders who were having problems of their own with the Petersfield front line.Watters may have a good left foot and can put in good crosses from free kicks and corners but that appers to be not enough to justify the position he holds. He has a habit of blaming everyone else without taking responsibility for his own performances.
We really didn't get to grips with midfield our defending at set pieces was poor as was some of the distribution when trying to clear lines.Apart from Rhys Hoeness who can cause problems with his runs at the oppositions defence and Ryan Ingreys dogged performance there was very little to cheer from the forwards. On Rhys Hoeness when he learns that this is a team game and that he can pass to someone in the penalty area who is in a better position he will become an even better player.
Rob Mason came on and instantly made a difference by scoring, why he didn't start was a bit of a surprise,Steve Castle obviously thinks Reece Dobson is the better option.
We were also treated to a debut appearance of the new signing Simon Thomas Thommo who came with a glowing reference from the manager, however,I can only say that the comments from all around were less than complimentary. For someone who stands at over six foot and who never won a header, and in fact his feet never left the ground and his only shot on goal was a left footed toe poke which had no pace on it then the kindest thing that was said was perhaps he is nervous in his first appearance.
To sum up nobody can take any praise for this performance and if we do achieve promotion then we should be concened for our future at a higher level.
One good thing to finish on,welcome back to Lewis Endacott we need him to bolster our defence.
