Where to start on this game without upsetting someone is going to be nearly impossible.
For the first 30 minutes Royston had total domination with three goals within 20 minutes and the possibilty of scoring at least twice more. The Kings Langley side were poor by anyone's standards and the question being asked was how were they in this league on this performance let alone sitting in a top five position. At this point,I have to say, that in those opening moments they were possibly the poorest side I have seen this seaon both home and away.this does not take anything away from the Crows who capitalised on the situation to the full.
However, within a few minutes there was a change of fortune for the Crows when a smart piece of play by Kings Langley exposed a poor defence and they reduced the deficit to 3-1.It then got even worse for Royston when the ball broke loose just inside the Royston half near the touchline the Kings Langley player went for the ball with Scott Bridges who true to form appeared to launch into a two-footed tackle which I assume the ref classed as a tackle with intent and immediately gave a straight red.One has to ask why this kind of tackle was neccessary, the ball was near the touchline there was no immediate danger,it was foolish in the extreme. Now with Scott facing a lengthy ban and Stuart liable to be out for a while injured this greatly reduces the effectiveness of the midfield. To cap it all Kings Langley then opened up the defence again to grab a second goal to make it 3-2.With Royston grabbing another to make it 4-2 the first half ended.
Kings Langley came out a different side for the second half and immediately set about winning the game and with Royston down to ten men and the midfield practically ineffective they were mounting attack after attack.Eventually they got their reward to reduce the deficit to 4-3.With the status quo being maintained the inevitable happened and and the equalising goal soon materialised.
It has to be said that Royston were the architects of there own downfall, with no McDevitt available Watters was played at left back with our the usual full back moved across to partner De La Salle with Bradshaw playing in front of the back four.Once again the tactics seemed questionable and got even worse after the sending off, with out any change apart from taking of our right back and bringing on another defender and bringing on a new player called Gary Cohen, that no one had heard of along with a young fellow in midfield that had no effect whatsoever. The players seemed to have run out of steam, perhaps christmas celebrations had come early.Questions need to be asked on a number of levels because the standard of the performances and inconsistancies does not bode well forthe chase for promotion.
