I know I have'nt contributed much on the forum lately but I can assure everyone that I have attended every home game and quite a number of the away matches. This includes today's game which saw the end of the Crows winning run in the league.Unfortunately the loss was due to poor refereeing and indiscipline from two Royston players who don't seem to learn from previous experiences.
The first incident happened within 15 minutes of the game starting with Scott Bridged losing the ball in the middle of the field and in trying to regain possession launched into a two footed tackle in front of the referee which caused an ankle injury to the Godalming player and resulted in a straight red card, which will result in a 3 match ban.
The referee then decided to get in on the action by some poor decisions including turning down two penalties for Royston and one for Godalming which everyone including the two managers thought were stonewall certainties.Unfotunately, as you can imagine, the football itself suffered and neither side made any real headway in the scoring stakes,in fact through out the whole game Royston had only two shots on target.
Things did'nt get any better in the second half and Steve Castle made three substitutions to try to liven up the side, one of these being Khan Fehmi.Unfortunately after being fouled and getting the free he tried to take it quickly but was blocked by a Godalming player an altercation ensued with Khan lashing out with his foot and bringing down the player. This resulted in in both players being red carded. This means another 3 match ban for Khan.
With the teams now standing at 9 players for Royston and 10 for Godalming it was obvious that whoever scored first would win the game and this proved to be the case when the referee gave a penalty To Godalming!ng that was clearly the wrong decision that resulted in the spot kick being converted with only a few minutes of the game left and not enough time for the Crows to respond.
In conclusion it must be said this was not one of our finest hours and the question that has to be asked is when will the two players of Royston learn that they are not only letting themselves down but also their team mates and supporters with their lack of self discipline.
I suppose I will get some stick for these comments but as I see it their disciplinary records over the last couple of seasons does not help the team in its endeavours.
